Pink, Poised, and Legally Blonde

For its spring performance, Fort Pierce Central High School drama department proudly presented Harvard bound Elle Woods in Legally Blonde the Musical. Ms. Browning and her students make theater more than a class, performing arts credit, or scheduled elective. Students learn all aspects of stage performance, technical, and backstage craft. The Arts draw students into new opportunities to build skills and interests while revealing personal talents. The Arts have a place for everyone. FPC is proud to have talented artists on every stage, at every level pursuing their performance dreams. Backstage the fun was perfectly balanced with poise and purpose!

FPWA JROTC Win “Battle of the Branches” Run

Cadets from the Westwood Army JROTC Raider Team travelled to the Florida Tech Challenge Course in Fellsmere, to compete in the annual “Battle of the Branches” Obstacle Course Run, which pits teams from all branches of the military against each other to see who can finish the 3.1 Mile/18-Obstacle Challenge Course the fastest. This year, the Westwood Team had the honor of winning the award for the Fastest JROTC Team. SOMS Rock the Test!

Southern Oaks Middle School faculty and staff kicked off with a “Rock the Test” celebration to encourage our students as they begin the testing season. The SOMS family wore rock attire, wrote inspiring messages for our students located at the entrance of each building, and cheered our students throughout the entire day. We also had our SOMS band play the “HAWK chant” as students entered campus. It is a great day to be a HAWK! HAWKS SOAR!

Port St. Lucie High School Jaguars Help Clean the Beaches!

On Saturday, April 22nd, students from the Port St. Lucie High School student government hosted a beach cleanup day, while inviting students from throughout campus to participate. Clean beaches and fun in the sun were had by all. This event was made possible by Mr. Austin, Mrs. Duenas, and Mrs. Martin.

FPWA JROTC End of the Year Awards

The Westwood Army JROTC Program held its End of the Year Awards Ceremony to recognize the stellar performances of multiple Cadets.  10 external organizations attended the event to present awards to selected Cadets for their achievements in Leadership and Academics. St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit Highlighted at St. Lucie West Centennial High School, Criminal Justice & Law Academy Students

St. Lucie West Centennial High School students from Mrs. Baumgarten and Mr. Nichol’s classes were introduced to a few local heroes.  The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit came out to meet and speak with students about working in law enforcement.  Students were well engaged and enjoyed observing the demonstrations provided by the unit.  Thank you to Deputy Randy Hunter, Deputy Steve Wise, and Sergeant Ben Deblieck; and the Career & Technical Educators for organizing this event for students in Criminal Justice/ Law Academy at St. Lucie West Centennial High School.

Treasure Coast High Students Visit Local Manufacturers

Mr. Phil Depuy and his Treasure Coast High School Manufacturing and Engineering students visited Bill Wilcox at Phoenix Metal Products Inc, and Tim Fischer at Southeast Elevator in Fort Pierce. At the first stop, the students were welding to get a hands-on taste of the job. At the second stop students saw what goes on behind the scenes of building an elevator. The business partners shared the skills needed for entry-level jobs and the students were making plans for what comes next after graduation.

Westwood Jr ROTC Visits Lakewood Park 3rd Graders

Major Godfrey, Ms.Benton  and Ms. Witkamp joined ‘forces’ to bring Lakewood Park Elementary third graders and the Westwood JrROTC cadets together. Third graders planned for the visit by investigating what makes a good interview and preparing interview questions along with selecting books to ‘buddy read’ with the cadet he/she was paired with during their time together. After the ‘buddy read’ round robin, which gave students and cadets multiple opportunities to interview and ‘buddy read’, everyone came back for a debrief and Q&A. Once a Cobra, Always a Cobra Retirement in any typical circumstance can be a mixture of joy and bittersweetness. True to Cobra style, parades celebrating Ms. Loretta Rolle and Mr. Roszon Lawrence celebrated from every corner of Cobra nation’s courtyard. Students, staff, and our entire Cobra community could be heard cheering amongst the marching Cobras percussionists from near to far. Each honoree had their own parade decked out in our proudest Purple and Gold. LPA National Junior Honor Society Collects and Sorts Canned Goods for Grace Pack Distribution

National Junior Honor Society students came together to help those in need by collecting and sorting food for the Grace Pack Foundation. Their hard work and dedication will make a difference in the lives of many families. They showed compassion and kindness as they worked tirelessly to ensure that no one goes hungry. These students are truly making an impact in their community and setting an example for others to follow. Way to go Greyhounds!!! 

Lincoln Park Academy Does Broadway

Lincoln Park Academy Theatre just returned from their first ever trip to the big city. LPA theatre took 21 students to New York City to experience the bright lights, Broadway and the history of NYC. These students saw two-star studded Broadway shows, took masterclasses with Broadway professionals, toured the Museum of Broadway and visited numerous sights to see in the city. Many students experienced their first Broadway show! It was truly the trip of a lifetime.      

Project Citizen Awardees

The 7th grade students at Manatee Academy are advancing on to the Project Citizen State competition after earning 1st place for their project, “Center of Attention”.  The students conducted thorough research and interviewed both professionals and city officials alike to establish an action plan that would encourage the production of more venues and family-oriented events at the Civic Center and throughout St. Lucie County. Recently, the students presented the plan before City Council with high hopes of their support. Best wishes to Mr. Young and his students as they move on to states!

Autism Awareness

For the month of April, the 7th grade students at Manatee Academy K-8 used their PBIS day to recognize student diversity!  As a way to celebrate Autism Acceptance Month, the students enjoyed music and laughter together, wore blue in solidarity, and painted murals which pieced together to form a beautiful jigsaw puzzle. #AutismAwareness

Palm Pointe 5th Grade Super Science Heroes

This Friday, the Palm Pointe Fifth graders united in the name of science.  Led by superhero teachers and our special guest, Water Woman from the Port St. Lucie Utility Systems Education Program, we reviewed Heavy Hitter topics in preparation for the upcoming Statewide Science Assessments.
