Middle grades students at Northport K-8 School have been working diligently on learning how to build strong leadership skills. Through a series of guest community leaders, students are learning to generate and pose deeper level questions about a variety of topics and to dig deeper and get into a more provocative atmosphere of questioning. MSE Spelling Bee Winner Buzzes to the Top

Third, Fourth and Fifth grade students competed in the MSE Spelling Bee on January 12, 2015.  After 14 rounds of words, Aaron Nieves, a third grader buzzes to the top and wins the competition.  Congratulation Aaron!!           

Southport Middle School Literacy Pow Wow

Southport Middle School had a wonderful turn out for their very first Literacy Pow Wow Night. Over 100 students, parents, faculty, and staff enjoyed the Hitchiti dancers who put on an amazing show, giving everyone a glimpse of their authentic Native American culture. It was a great night for singing, dancing, eating Native American food and making crafts around the bonfire.

Jaguars March in the MLK Jr. Parade

The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion showed their pride at the annual Martin Luther King Junior Day parade in Fort Pierce. Marching in this parade is a tremendous honor and privilege for Port Saint Lucie High. The Battalion formation was led by the Jaguar’s Color Guard was commanded by Cadet Sergeant First Class Jamie Triplett carrying the National Flag. Take Your Parent to School for Kids at Hope Day at Chester A. Moore Elementary

CA Moore had a Take Your Parent to School Day on November 12th for parents to go to their child’s classroom for 30 minutes and observe the teacher conferencing with students.  The teachers also gave strategies for parents to assist their children at home with reading.  We hope to continue these events, rotating math and reading.  We embrace the Kids at Hope philosophy along with the Treasure Hunter’s Pledge and student pledge that is recited daily on our morning show.  We utilize the caring adult as well, as it is critical that our students know that they have a caring … Read More

Northport K-8 School Submits Spelling Bee Champion to Scripps!

Northport K-8 School is pleased that we can announce our 2015 Spelling Bee champion. Our first place winner is eighth grade Northstar student, Ashley Quijada who was submitted by instructor, Nick Carey. Ashley will represent Northport at the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee on March 14 at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center. The competition went five rounds with the winning word as “epoch.” Students withstood intense pressure as the words became increasingly more difficult. P.B.I.S. Mismatch Day at Palm Pointe

Students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition participated in a Mismatch Day sponsored by the P.B.I.S. (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) program. Students used their earned rocket fuel for good behavior in the classroom to be able to dress mismatched. Lakewood Park Elementary Receives Grant From Southeast Petro Distributors, Exxon Mobil

Lakewood Park Elementary was nominated and awarded a $500.00 grant from the local Exxon/Mobil location. The award was presented to the faculty by JP Snead Brand, Manager for Southeast Petro Distributors, Inc., which is a part of Exxon Mobil. This money is provided to enhance instruction in the areas of math and science. Lakewood Park Elementary would like to say thanks for this great honor and the funds will be used wisely. Go Falcons!!

BBBS National Mentoring Month Recognition

Pilot Club Presentation

Pilot Club members presented a check to the School Board on January 13th for the 2014-2015 Pilot Club Grant. The check in the amount of $1,500 is to be used for the Best Buddies Program at Fort Pierce Central High School. Best Buddies International is a non-profit 501 organization. It consists of volunteers that create opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Best Buddies High Schools foster one-to-one friendships between students with and without IDD. The high school years are a time of heightened social and emotional development and can be difficult even for those without IDD. Claretha Robinson was recognized at the School Board Meeting on January 13th as a STAR (Special Thanks And Recognition) recipient. Ms. Robinson is the front office clerk for Fort Pierce Westwood High School. Because of the nature of what she does, many times she receives the brunt of those that come in and may be upset, however she always remains true to form. Mariposa Elementary First Graders Help UNICEF

At Mariposa, Mrs. Elizabeth Forbes, first grade teacher, volunteered to serve as the Unicef Coordinator.  She turned this into a learning experience for her students.  She had enough coins to allow her first graders to sort, count, make patterns, and even count by 5’s and 10’s.  What an opportunity!  So now these first graders know their coins! Farm to School in All St. Lucie Public School Cafeterias

Child Nutrition Services launches a Farm to School Program in all school cafeterias.  Locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables such as romaine lettuce, oranges, peppers, strawberries and cucumbers will be served to all students starting on Wednesday January 14th. This is just the beginning of many locally grown produce items that will be offered to our students. Students will also learn the nutritional value of the wholesome items that are being offered.  This locally grown produce is delivered within 24 hours of harvest to the schools, straight from the farm to the plate!  It has been the Child Nutrition Service Program’s goal … Read More

Palm Pointe Students Attend Saturday with a Scientist

These four fifth grade students from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition were selected to  attend “Saturday with a Scientist” on Saturday, 10, 2015 at V.G.T.I. (Vaccine Gene Therapy Institute). Students were able to do several hands on science experiments. The students all learned valuable lessons and enjoyed the experiments that they did. Mariposa Elementary Compares and Contrasts in Kindergarten

The Kindergarten Team at Mariposa Elementary showed their amazing collaborative planning abilities as they put together an extremely engaging end-of-unit Gingerbread Day. After a week-long unit that involved comparing and contrasting different versions of the Gingerbread Man stories, the students illustrated their own gingerbread characters. The week ended with the students decorating gingerbread cookies and building Gingerbread houses of their own. The fun projects helped bring the stories to life. Northport K-8 School Scientists Integrate Scientific Thinking

Northport K-8 students in grades six through eight participated in the Northport Science Fair recently. The young scientists entered projects in eight categories. The projects integrated scientific thinking and processes with literacy, writing and mathematics. Students researched and developed a problem statement which had real world applications, wrote cited background research reports, formulated a testable and quantifiable hypothesis based on their understanding of the background information, designed and performed their controlled experiment, made statistical calculations to analyze the data and stated their findings in a conclusion. Westwood Holiday Gift

Students from Fort Pierce Westwood Marine and Oceanographic Academy had a holiday celebration before Winter Break where they shared various food and activities from all over the world. As part of the festivities, money was collected to aide the Hibiscus Children’s Center of the Treasure Coast. Westwood MOA students raised a total of $580, all of which was donated.
