Morningside grandparents are center stage!

Morningside Elementary celebrated Grandparents’ Day a little early.  The grandparents were invited to join their students for lunch on the stage, in front of the stage, and throughout the cafe to celebrate the importance of family supporting education and their students!

Southern Oaks Middle School Students Visit the Media Center

The students at Southern Oaks Middle School began their weekly visit to the Media Center in September.  The students will come to the media center each week for 15 minutes through Science, Social Studies and Language Arts classes to check out books.  Each week, the students will come to the media center with a different class.  During this time, Ms. Odom (Media Specialist) and Mr. Knight (Media Clerk) will read from a variety of  books to help the students venture out of their reading preference to something a little different.  Eighth grade student Sebastian Lippard has started reading his book. … Read More

Northport VPK-8 School Educates and Commemorates on 9/11

Each school year, Northport is pleased and proud to present to our students many different educational experiences about the tragedy of September 11, 2001. This year has been no different. Students in Melanie Polascak’s fifth grade class learned about the Survivor’s Tree which withstood the fall of the Twin Towers. Students made their own quilt to display in the school hallway to remember the Survivor’s Tree. Students also signed a “Northport American Children’s Pledge” to be great citizens of the United States of America. Those pledges line the hallways of Northport. During Tuesday’s (9/8/15) School Board Meeting (also International Literacy Day), St. Lucie County’s Reading Council read a proclamation stating that each Wednesday during the 2015-2016 school year will be recognized as a day to promote a passion for literacy.

Dads Take Your Child to School Day

A Committee of school and community leaders brought forth a proclamation at the September 8 School Board Meeting — Dads Bring Your Child to School Day. St. Lucie Public Schools, along with other school districts in Florida, will recognize this initiative on September 30, 2015. St. Lucie sees this as a movement rather than a moment to promote involvement of dads and male care givers in the lives of their students.

Operation Stoplifting at Southport Middle School

Students from each Social Studies class at Southport Middle School were invited to a visit the media center for a presentation by the Port Saint Lucie Police Department for a program initiative called Operation Stoplifting. The program led by Stacy Paton, Crime Prevention Specialist for the PSLPD, and Officer Frank Borges who updated students on the hazards of shoplifting. Frances K Sweet second graders explore forces that shape the Earth

Students in Mrs. Stacey Johnson’s second grade enrichment group at Frances K. Sweet Elementary school are learning about forces that shape our Earth. Students in Mrs. Patricia Jones third grade class at Frances K. Sweet worked as engineers on the second day of school. Their project was to create a name tag they could attach to their bodies visible to the teacher and their new classmates. The criteria included proper conventions of their name, visible from a distance, it would remain attached to them with out falling off, include at least one picture to represent themselves, and they must have used at least three colors. Northport Welcomes BBBS Americorps Tutors as Community Partners!

Northport VPK-8 School welcomes four tutors for our kindergarten, first, and second grade learners from the SLC Big Brothers, Big Sisters AmeriCorps School-Based Mentoring program. This year, Barbara Despinos, Scott Hinckley, Tessa Falatovich and Azzam Abdur-Rahmen will service 34 children. The tutors will work with matched students on specific reading skills as targeted by their teachers and augmented by testing data. Tutors work on phoneme segmentation, letter sounds and names, word fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and passage reading to build reading skills and collaborate with the classroom teacher to give students more time and more direct instruction. Operation Graduation Night at Centennial High School

Operation Graduation Centennial hosted its very first Operation Graduation Night  on August 27.  Centennial Administrators, Guidance Counselors and  several teachers participated in the event to provide parents and seniors with information about graduation requirements.  

VGE Welcome Back Bus Breakfast

Village Green Environmental Studies School welcomed their amazing bus drivers back to school with a breakfast and PBS training on Friday, August 28, 2015. VGE loves their drivers!

VGESS Barnes & Noble Book Fair

On Thursday, August 27, 2015 many Village Green teachers, students, and families attended the Barnes and Noble Book Fair.  The night was a great success. Guest readers read to the book-hungry crowd.

Project E.A.G.L.E

      Centennial High School launches Project Eagle.  Every Athlete Giving Leading Excelling.  Project Eagle is a program designed for student athletes to represent Centennial by volunteering in the community.  There will be extensive volunteer opportunities throughout the year and each student athlete is encouraged to volunteer for at least 20 hours.  It a way for our student eagles to give back to our community and make a difference.
