Agreement Reached With St. Lucie Public Schools and Unions

St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) reached a positive agreement today with its Classroom Teachers Association (CTA) and Classified Unit (CU) partners. Superintendent E. Wayne Gent stated, “We value the committed educational professionals who dedicate themselves to teaching our students and accelerating their learning. New Leaders Named for Two K-8 Schools

ST. LUCIE COUNTY: St. Lucie Public Schools Superintendent E. Wayne Gent announced that Kim Jay, a recognized literacy leader in the school district, will serve as Allapattah Flats’ new principal, and Eldrique Gardner will bring his expertise in educational leadership to the campus of St. Lucie West K-8 as its new principal. Teachers are Learners at Fairlawn

Teachers gave up some of their summer break to take part in a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) training. Teachers worked together to create STEM Design challenges that allow students to solve real-world problems. They designed lessons that will give students the opportunities to collaborate with peers, design a model and test the model for effectiveness. Superintendent E. Wayne Gent was sworn in as St. Lucie Public School’s new Superintendent of Schools on July 21, 2015, during the School Board meeting. Treasure Coast High School Student Leaders Participate in Penny’s Band Camp

Treasure Coast Titans marched into this summer’s Penny’s Band Camp with a strong student leadership team. The long-standing annual camp, held at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, was host to numerous bands seeking to hone leadership skills, refine fundamentals, and enhance specialized techniques. During the four-day camp experience, students studied with recognized music educators and professionals from the southeastern United States. They learned from Florida Bandmasters’ Association Adjudicators and collegiate band directors. Upcoming fifth grades had the opportunity to attend summer camp at F. K. Sweet. Students are learning and having fun all at the same time. White City Wildcats are Roaring Readers!

White City Wildcats are roaring readers! They took on the Action 100 program with amazing ambition and the results show their success. Students read at least one hour every school day and 30 minutes on non school days. The program was completed with the fidelity of steps being recorded daily and ongoing conferencing throughout the year. Congratulations to all!

The 19th of June is the freedom forerunner to the 13th Amendment, which implemented freedom for all slaves in the United States, Juneteenth Independence Day completes the cycle of Independence Day Celebrations in America. The Juneteenth celebration commemorates the emancipation of Southern Blacks on June 19, 1865, two and half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
