“Visions of Peace”

In early October, Lincoln Park Academy middle school art students participated in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest which is sponsored by Lions Clubs around the world. This art contest encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For more than 25 years, millions of children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest. Northport Students Innovate Using Java Script!

Technology Education is alive and thriving at Northport! As part of the National Hour of Code celebrated worldwide each December, Kevin Fess and his technology classes are trying their hand at coding pictures, animations, and character movements. Students as young as first grade are engaging in coding enterprises at Northport this month. The National Hour of Code is an initiative by Code.org, which aims to get students of all ages interested in computer science. Pictured is 6th grade student Riley Orr from the Northstar Team. Root and Rocket Garden at Palm Pointe

Recently, first grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition celebrated the inauguration of the “Root and Rocket Garden.” A ribbon cutting ceremony took place with first grade teacher Rebecca Benton organizing the event. Students and staff were excited to see the garden take shape and the plants growing. Great job rockets!

REE’s Annual Camp Out Fun in the Rain

REE hosted their annual family camp out on Friday night before Thanksgiving. Tents were set up all over the property while hamburgers and hot dogs were grilled. The rain changed a few of the planned activities and cut the favorite night hike in half, but it couldn’t stop the families from having fun. There was dancing under the cover and a concert by Madnote – a band that includes one of our 5th grade teachers, Gregory Stetz. This long-standing tradition is organized by our Media Specialist, PJ Price.

Northport Students Participate in an Act of Courage and Learning!

Wonderful morning recently in the Northport Media Center as we work through our “Gold Star Family Education Week!” Two courageous Gold Star moms, Linda Schuman and Karen Zook who both lost sons in recent years visited the Media Center to help educate our students about key qualities that help our community and families instill attributes that make awesome citizens. The women gave solid examples of the words: integrity, sacrifice, empathy, service, commitment, honor and teach. Savanna Ridge Students and Staff Raise Money for PTO Turkey Fundraiser!

Students at Savanna Ridge Elementary raised money during a recent PTO fundraiser whereby the winners wore turkey costumes for the day. Mr. Clements (5th grade teacher) and Mrs. Fletcher (2nd grade teacher) were good sports and wore turkey costumes for the day since they were the ones who raised the most money for the fundraiser.   They are pictured with the SRE Morning News Team members and Savanna Ridge’s PTO President Ericka Goyes after they announced it on the Morning News Show.

Weatherbee Receives Gold PBIS Model School Award

Weatherbee Elementary School has once again achieved Gold Level Model PBS School status. Recently, Dr. Lurana Hillard presented the PBIS team with a certificate of success for the 2013-14 school year along with gold pins for all faculty and staff.  Pictured is the PBIS team accepting the award.

Frances K. Sweet First Graders Make Butter

Students from Mrs. Cindy Langel’s 1st grade class are comparing life now with life in the past.  After learning about how people in the past prepared food, the students used heavy whipping cream to create homemade butter. Frances K. Sweet Has Fun at Their PBIS Event

Frances K. Sweet celebrated the last day before the Thanksgiving holiday by having their monthly PBIS event. Ms. Marla Liberatore’s 3rd grade class brought in their favorite games to play with their friends. Students enjoyed playing board games like Monopoly, Sorry, and Hedbanz, and card games like UNO and Crazy Eights. Everyone enjoyed spending their Starbucks to play with their friends at this event.
