Mariposa Monarch Reads to Younger Students

Mrs. Baptiste’s third grade student, Jayden Fairchild, put her amazing reading skills to work as she read a favorite classic story to Mrs. Auciello’s first graders! The class was silent and fully engaged as they listened to her read to them.  

Northport Speakers Bureau Shines Forth As Gold!

Northport students and teachers welcomed the monthly Speakers Bureau recently, and the Northport Media Center truly did “Shine Forth As Gold!” The morning began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by sixth grader, Alicia Brown, dressed as Harriet Tubman. As the program progressed, students from Deborah Allen’s class dressed authentically as famous Black Americans such as Dr. Martin Luther King and Mary McCloud Bethune and more black heroes presented “Who Am I?” speeches. Northport is pleased to announce our results from the 2017 St. Lucie County Regional Science and Engineering Fair STEM competition. Students researched a problem having societal impact and then creatively designed their experiment to test their hypothesis or built a prototype device to find a solution. Veterans of Foreign Wars, Voice of Democracy Winner

On Tuesday February 7th, Cadet Major Jennifer Arriola (right) was awarded the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 8058, Voice of Democracy Essay/Audio Scholarship. She wrote and recorded a two-page essay describing her responsibility to America. Her essay was titled “The Land of the Free.” In her essay, she described her mission to give back to America and expressed her patriotism for this great country. Rockin’ Red Riding Hood at White City Elementary

White City Elementary students enjoyed a dramatic production of Rockin’ Red Riding Hood.  Students made connections between the stage presentation and the traditional story version.  Students had a rockin’ good time as they compared point of view, themes, and the pattern of events.  

SLWCHS Parli Pro Team Places 2nd

SLWCH Parli Pro Team (11th grade) placed 2nd at the HOSA District IX Winter Leadership Conference (WLC). The purpose of the parliamentary procedure was to develop leadership skills in HOSA members by conducting a simulated business meeting. This event was based on team competition; therefore, members learned the importance of cooperation and working together through competitive performance. This event involved two rounds of competition. Round One consisted of a written test to evaluate the team’s understanding of parliamentary procedure. Northport Students Join in Recycling Service Effort!

Students across the Northport campus are working to do their part and conserve our earth. Fifth grade teacher, Melanie Polascak, spearheaded a campaign to bring recycling to the school. Students interested in the effort meet in Polascak’s classroom on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to organize and to work together to get twenty bins from Waste Pro. Every Tuesday morning before school, twelve interested students go across campus and bring the bins to the front of the school then they meet again on Thursday to bring the empty bins back to their designated spots. Northport Loves Langston Hughes!

Students in Sherree Madorma’s 5th grade class not only celebrated Valentine’s Day, but also paid tribute to one of the finest American poets and a Black History icon, Langston Hughes. The program entitled, “We Love Langston Hughes!” was an animated group reading of the Hughes poem, “Harlem.” Students studied what Langston Hughes’ poetry meant to people in the 1950’s. The theme of the poem, students learned, was to always follow your dreams, to never give up, and to “Just Do It!” Students learned all about segregation and the sadness that people felt during that time in history. The students of White City Elementary have created a Black History Hall of Fame which celebrates the accomplishments of African Americans. Students are learning about the contributions of influential African Americans.  Classes are conducting research and discovering the accomplishments of historical figures.

Jaguars First 2017 Drill Meet at Jupiter Community High School By: Sarai Narvaez The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Drill Team competed in Jupiter Community High School’s Drill Competition against nine other schools on February 11th. The competition consisted of Armed Squad, Unarmed Squad, Armed Platoon, Unarmed Platoon, and Color Guard.  The Jaguars did incredibly well for their first competition. Moore Elementary School and SLPS extend appreciation and gratitude to Mrs. Frankie Sayles for her dedicated volunteer service and for her contributions to the education of children for thirty-three years.  In a special celebration on Friday, February 10, 2017, Mrs. Sayles was surrounded by children, school personnel, and community leaders as the Frankie Sayles Learning Center at C. SLW Centennial Medical Academy Students Learn How to Save a Life Using Hands-Only CPR

More than 117 Health Science A&P 10th and 11th grade students at St. Lucie West Centennial High School learned Hands-Only CPR this week. These students were taught by Mary Higgins’ First Responder and Dual Enrollment students. First Responder classes are available to students who have completed the Allied Health Program as a senior elective. First Responder students prepare for careers in emergency medicine by becoming CPR certified as Health Care Professionals, completing web based classroom instruction and skills in advanced first aid techniques, followed by a shadowing opportunity at various St. Lucie County Fire Stations. The students and staff at Fort Pierce Westwood High School welcomed Mr. Michael Carbenia, the director of Career & Technical Education, as a guest in the Speakers Bureau series. 2017 Military Ball By: Sarai Narvaez The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion hosted their 23nd annual Military Ball at the Saint Lucia River Club. This night is dedicated to a long line of military time honored traditions. TC-MOAA 5K Run-Walk By: Sarai Narvaez The Treasure Coast Military Officers Association of America (TC-MOAA) conducted a JROTC premier 5K race and walk. The purpose of this event was to promote excellence in JROTC programs in St. Lucie and Martin Counties, community involvement, Veterans programs, and membership of the TC-MOAA. Three of our cadets participated in 5K race and walk. LPA Wins Top Individual Honors at MathCounts Competition

The Lincoln Park Academy Middle School Math Team participated in the annual MathCounts competition on Friday. Kendrick Carpenter took first place individual honors and will go on to compete at the state level on March 24th. Also among the top ten finishers was Malaica Ashley who finished in eighth place. First Alert Weather Team Visits FPMSA

FPMSA Students Receive a Special Visit From the First Alert Weather Team The WPBF First Alert Weather Class brings a storm of excitement to Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts as the team of professional meteorologists teach 3rd graders about weather systems. Meteorologists Vanessa Vincent and Taylor Grenda were on site for the day’s lesson.
