Twenty students representing Dan McCarty Middle School recently joined their voices with other middle school singers from around the Treasure Coast area to participate in the Four County Middle School Honors Choir at Indian River State College. The students were selected based on their musicianship skills and the recommendation of their chorus director, Dr. Rolanda A. Jones.

Fort Pierce Westwood began a new, school-wide PBIS event with their students this year.  The Principal’s Panther Praise 200 Club (100 Club for MOA campus) requires randomly chosen teachers and staff to identify students who meet our ROARS expectations in and out of class each day.  Ten tickets are given out each day to be distributed to students for R-respect, O-on task, A-accountable, R-responsibility, S-safety. On September 27th, SGA had a wonderful time celebrating fathers and caring adults who change the lives of our students everyday.  The morning started with an instrumental interlude by SGA music teacher Mr. Pena and students along with photo booth opportunities.  After a brief presentation and breakfast, the fathers and caring adults were eager to pledge to be more involved in their children’s education.

Palm Pointe faculty, staff and middle school students are all “fired up” because they had the opportunity to hear a powerful message about the importance of transitioning a growth mindset into the will to achieve from guest speaker Principal Baruti Kafele. Kafele, a nationally-renowned public speaker, author, and award winning former educator and principal, is a specialist in “attitude transformation.” His book, Closing the Attitude Gap, speaks to the importance of being mission minded, and developing the necessary passion, purpose, and drive to persevere through challenges in order to succeed in the classroom and in life. #mission ready    

Ms. Mellion’s 2nd Period reviewed simplifying fractions after teaching students how to relate division to fractions. Students were able to work in groups with whiteboards for better understanding. They were excited to be able to tell the difference between simplified fractions and not simplified to smallest form fractions. Students are also learning about creating expressions with and without solving.  

Southport Middle School faculty, staff and community members welcomed students back to the 2017-2018 school year with our annual Tunnel of Hope celebration! What a wonderful morning at Northport recently. So many dads, grandpas, big brothers and families participated in the SLPS districtwide event. Northport realizes that we need family participation to help us bring the very best learning environment to the children. Many thanks to all who participated. It was just wonderful to see and greet all the dads for a terrific breakfast in the media center. Many thanks to all who participated and special thanks to the Northport Culinary department and School Secretary Louise Robinson as well as Cafeteria Manager Bev Yates. Caroline Duran, Art Teacher at Lincoln Park Academy has been recognized by the Florida Art Education Association (FAEA) as the 2017 New Professional Award winner. The FAEA program recognizes individuals who have achieved the highest level of professionalism in art education and shows appreciation for their contribution to the association and its mission. Ms. Duran, along with 17 other award recipients from throughout the state, will be honored at the FAEA Awards Breakfast on Saturday, October 21st from 7:30-8:30am in St. Petersburg, FL. #bbbsglowbowl was a great event this year! Northport is so happy to support our wonderful partners in education in this annual event. Northport has several mentors and four tutors that serve from 40 – 60 kindergarten through second grade students. Northport’s school grade went from a C to a B this year. Part of the school’s success can be attributed to the many services that are received from a plethora of community partners. After the Jaguars take the win on Tuesday, September 19, with a score of 23-14 against the John Carroll Rams, they play again on September 22 against the Okeechobee Brahman Bulls. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Color Guard (c/MAJ Tesa May  and c/ MSG Hayley Pollard as the flag bearers and c/CPT Morgan Emerson and c/SFC Dominic Casianio as the guards) start the game with the presentation of colors.

After the break from school, the Port St. Lucie Jaguars start off strong with their first varsity home game against the John Carroll Rams on Tuesday, September 19. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Color Guard starts the game off by presenting the colors: c/ MAJ Tesa May, c/ CPT Allison Wilhoit c/SFC Dominic Casianio , and c/ SSG Andre Hannon show their school and nation pride by respectfully displaying the colors.
