Licensed Teen Drivers Can Take “Teen Driver Challenge” To Improve Their Skills

St. Lucie County licensed teen drivers can improve their defensive driving skills  by taking the “Teen Driver Challenge” on January 24 and 26, according to Sheriff Ken  J. Mascara. “The number one killer of American teenagers is car crashes,” said Sheriff Mascara. “That is why the Sheriffs of Florida developed the Teen Driver Challenge Program.” The course will take place Thursday, January 24 with a classroom session 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, located at 4700 West Midway Rd. Students Build Volcanoes!

Larry Kaskey and his 7th grade Northstar students at Northport are having fun and learning about how to build a working volcano. Great hands-on lessons! The students are loving the lessons and being outside on this glorious day!  

Southport Middle School Students Save the Chimps Service Project

Southport Middle School students have been working on a number of service projects this year. For their service project, the Hawks team chose to raise funds and collect donations to benefit Save the Chimps, the world’s largest privately funded chimpanzee sanctuary located in Fort Pierce. As part of the service learning project, the students have been collecting blankets, food, toys, etc. to donate to the sanctuary. Mariposa Elementary Celebrates our Military

On November 28, Mariposa Elementary had an assembly to honor men and women who have served and those who are currently serving in the United States Military.  Our students were encouraged to invite a family member or friend who is a Veteran or currently serving to attend this assembly. During the program, a group of Veterans came to speak to the students. Mr. Chad Guess had his Mariposa Marching Band Drumline put on an amazing performance. We are so thrilled to announce our Student of the Month for November. Students are selected for being a good friend, improving their attitude, standing up for someone else, being a good citizen and many other reasons. Students are selected by their teachers and sometimes, by a class consensus. We are so proud of these kids! Many thanks to all our parents who attended the Student of the Month. Our Army JROTC Jaguar Cadets Prepare Thanksgiving Meals with the Big Heart Brigade!

On Monday and Tuesday, November 19 and 20, 2018, many cadets led by Cadet Captain Brianna Harris and Cadet Sergeant James Mikovsky, along with Cadet Sergeant First Class Lawrence Moleon Mathews, and Cadet Private Heaven Savinon, Cadet 1st Lieutenant Lila Meade, Cadet Corporal Ashley Armendarez, Cadet Master Sergeant Max Marrero, Cadet Private Damien Borkowski, volunteered to help the St. Lucie County Fire District in the Annual Big Heart Brigade. Palm Pointe’s Junior Beta members attended the Florida State Beta Convention in Orlando this week.  The National Beta Organization is a service based group that focuses on cultivating the ideals of academic achievement, character, leadership, and service among students. This organization celebrates students who strive to become the leaders of tomorrow. Students competed in individual and group competitions against other Beta chapters. Jaguar Battalion’s Raider Teams Compete at Regionals

On Saturday, November 10, 2018, our male and female Raider Teams competed at South Fork High School Area 3 Regional Raider Meet. Each team competed in all five events including rope bridge, obstacle course, cross country rescue, tire flip, and team run for the male and female teams. WPBF Meteorologist Britley Ritz did it again! She brought a storm of excitement to students at St. Lucie West K-8 during a special weather lesson.  Britley  helped students understand weather systems and answered the many interesting questions ranging from what it takes to be a meteorologist to detailed inquiries about hurricanes. Gracepacks Donations

St. Lucie Public Schools is a proud sponsor for Gracepacks this Holiday season! Please consider donating food items to this organization in support of the weekend food backpack program. With your support and generosity, the goal this Holiday season is to provide over 1,000 pounds of food items! Food collections will run through December 12th. The District will coordinate donation pick-up from each participating school/department.  

Recycle and Create Buddy Benches

Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful and the City of Port St. Lucie in partnership with several City departments (Communications Department, Neighborhood Services Department, the Port St. Lucie Police Department, and the Utilities Department), Waste Pro, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and St. Lucie Public Schools kicked off the Buddy Bench project! Three local schools are participating in this initial phase: Morningside Elementary, Oak Hammock and West Gate K-8 Elementary.
