Treasure Coast High School’s (TCHS) Engineering and Manufacturing program students learned about Apprenticeship opportunities available to them after high school graduation. Students in the program were then able to register for one of two available pre-apprenticeships (Welding or Industrial manufacturing) while enrolled in the program at TCHS. LPA is celebrating its Centennial Year through the oral histories of its alumni. Sophomore Lily Zheng interviewed alumni, the first being Francenia Mimms, who graduated from LPA in 1959. Ms. Mimms shared her experience attending LPA and growing up in Fort Pierce. The interview can be found on LPA’s YouTube channel. Mrs. Ankiel’s Kindergartners recently learned about the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The students learned about his powerful speeches and civil rights work. Mrs. Ankiel uses the teachings of MLK Jr to help her students learn to solve problems nonviolently and promote love and comradery in her classroom. The students read books, drew and colored a portrait, and participated in classroom activities to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
SLWK8 students celebrated the 100th Day of School by showing their spirit. Students in Ms. Walker’s second through fourth-grade class celebrated the 100th Day of School by showing they are 100 Days Sharper! First-grade students turned into Dalmatians, 101 to be exact!
Morningside Elementary students in Mrs. Eibl’s second-grade class refined their research skills when they spent time during their enrichment MTSS block researching an animal that lives in Antarctica or the region. After becoming the class expert on their habitats and animals, they integrated technology by creating a PowerPoint presentation and then building a replica of their habitat before sharing their skills and knowledge with classmates.
Students from the Criminal Justice programs (Career & Technical Education) participated in a special session hosted by St. Lucie County’s Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller, Michelle R. Miller. This session included multiple presentations from the St. Lucie Sheriff’s Office, IT department, Detention staff, Probation & Parole officers, court staff, and more! The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Drill Team competed in Santaluces High School Drill Competition against six other schools on January 19th. The competition consisted of Armed Squad, Unarmed Squad, male individual Exhibition, female Individual Exhibition, Let one squad, Male/Mixed dual exhibition, and Color Guard. The Jaguars did incredibly well in their first competition of the season. Middle school students in Ms. Velazquez’s science classes learned how to describe motion with graphs. Students answered two essential questions; how an object’s motion can be recorded on a graph and how can a graph help you understand an object’s motion. They had four different tasks to perform: hopping, walking backwards, walking normally, and speed walking. They were timed and given how quickly they arrived at the appointed destination (5 meters and 10 meters) which they then wrote down. Fabulous fifth-grade teachers at Morningside collaboratively plan to engage students in the process of writing. Last week, students used color coding to write argumentative essays about whether zoos should exist. They analyzed different viewpoints and then wrote in order to express their viewpoints using evidence to back up their claims. Next, they were able to read their finished products with their buddy class. Learning sure is colorful at Morningside Elementary.
At Forest Grove Middle School, students in Mrs. Sallette’s class built roller coasters!! The assignment was to use gravitational energy to make a roller coaster with a loop. Their marble must complete the loop and the whole track.
On Saturday, February 3rd, the Jaguar Battalion traveled to Dwyer High School. Our Female and Male Teams competed in an Unarmed/Armed Squad, Color Guard, and Exhibition duo/solo. PSL ended up placing 2nd in Female Armed Squad, 1st in Female Unarmed Squad, 2nd in Female duo exhibition, 1st in female Color Guard, and 1st in solo exhibition. Floresta Elementary celebrated literacy with a Words Get Dressed Up event. Teachers, staff, and students made Everglades-themed vocabulary words come to life with their costumes and visual representations. K-2 families came out to enjoy a special parade of words!

On Saturday, January 27th, 2024, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion conducted its 29th Annual Military Ball at the Santa Lucia River Club. Male Cadets wore their Class A Uniform, and female cadets came in formal gowns. Our Jaguar Battalion Color Guard posted the colors to begin the formal portion of the ceremony.
