Safety Fest 2019

Friends, families, businesses, and organizations came together on Saturday, April 27th for a day of fun, food, festivities, and demonstrations at the 5th Annual Safety Fest held at the Digital Domain Stadium in Port St. Lucie. The Ft. Pierce Central High School JROTC Color Guard and St. Lucie West Centennial High School Band opened the event by presenting the Colors and playing the National Anthem. St. Lucie Public Schools was represented by Transportation, FDLRS, Media Services, Magnet School Programs, and General Programs of Study.

Key Club Installation of Officers

The Key Club is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through service to others and is supported and mentored under the umbrella of the Kiwanis International family. Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities. New members of the Key Club were recently inducted for the coming school year.  

Applebee’s Above and “Bee”yond Winner!

In the Applebee’s Above and “Bee”yond contest, Nikayia wrote an essay about Mrs. DeVries and how she deserves to win this award. Nikayia’s essay was chosen and Mrs. DeVries was the St. Lucie County Applebee’s Above and Beyond winner! She will receive $500 to spend in her classroom for the 2019-2020 school year. Congratulations, Mrs. DeVries! Thank you for all you do!

St. Lucie Public Schools Participates In Summer Food Service Program

Fort Pierce, Florida – St. Lucie Public Schools will participate in the Summer Food Service Program during the months of June and July.  Nutritionally balanced meals will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age or national origin during summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available.  At open sites, all children, 18 years old and younger, are eligible for meals at no charge, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.  The programs are only approved for geographical areas of need where 50 percent or more of the … Read More

LPA Theater Hairspray the Musical!

Lincoln Park Academy Theater produced Hairspray the Musical the last week of April 2019. This toe-tapping show was a delight to work on and to see. With over 100 students involved, this show was held very near and dear to many students’ hearts. A timeless story of equality and love, Tracy Turnblad soars to new heights with her hair and her willingness to stand up for what’s right. Over 1,200 attendees traveled through time with LPA to an upbeat world of hairspray and a world of changing dance.    

Port St. Lucie High School JROTC End-of-Year Busch Gardens Trip

On Saturday April 27, 2019, 45 cadets from the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion traveled to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay on an end-of-the-year trip. Thanks to all the support and funds provided to the cadets over the past several months, we were able to enjoy a day trip to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Cadets spent a day riding popular rides like the “SheiKra” and “Tigris,” dined at the many fabulous restaurants, and enjoyed a day with their fellow cadets. Three-Read Strategy Works At Weatherbee

Ms. Alyssa Barbieri’s fifth grade students enjoy implementing the Three-Read strategy for math word problems that Math Coach Erin Albano introduced to them.  Multiple groups of students generated some very good questions which helped them focus on what was happening in the problem instead of just jumping to answer the question.  Way to go Mariners!!

SLPS Education Referendum Passes with 66% of the Vote

St. Lucie Public Schools Superintendent E. Wayne Gent and School Board members thank St. Lucie County voters and community members for supporting the education referendum with a 66% vote. “The record number of returned ballots and support from our community speaks volumes to the value placed on a quality public school education system. Bayshore Elementary staff handed out nearly 250 bottles of water to thank their families for supporting the referendum.  The bottles were wrapped with a thank you message that generated smiles and reciprocal thanks.

Fort Pierce Elks #1520 Support Students

The generous members of Fort Pierce Elks #1520 have done it again! Through their focused efforts on supporting students in need, they have donated 150 crock pots which can be used to prepare hot and nourishing meals regardless of the location or mobility status of students and their families.   The Elks #1520 also support weekend food backpack programs, school clothing drives, and school supply donations. St. Lucie Public Schools greatly appreciates the outpouring of support from this benevolent organization.

St. Lucie Culinary Arts Students Show at Taste of St. Lucie

Culinary Arts students from Port St. Lucie High School, Northport K-8, and St. Lucie West Centennial High School hosted three booths at the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Taste of St. Lucie fundraiser. Port St. Lucie High’s Jaguar Culinary Team sautéed and served Lucky 7 Wontons with Asian Slaw and Gator Loupgaroo with Boom-Boom Sauce. Delicious! St. Lucie West K-8 students served their homemade “Shark Bites” — a combination of dark chocolate cake, chocolate cream, dark chocolate, and whipped cream.  Yummy! Congressman Mast Speaks at Port St. Lucie High School’s Change of Command Ceremony 2019

On Wednesday, April 24, 2019, the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion had its annual Change of Command ceremony to announce the incoming Battalion Commander and Command Sergeant Major for the school year 2019-2020. As our honored guest, Congressman Mast gave an inspirational speech to the nearly 200 cadets. The outgoing Battalion Commander, Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Veronika Patti, passed the Battalion colors to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Simmons relinquishing her duties and responsibilities to the new commander. The elementary science showcase was held this past weekend at the Savannas Preserve State Park and the Oxbow Eco-Center.  With student work on display at both locations, it was a great opportunity for families and friends to enjoy learning about the students’ projects as well as visiting exhibit halls and nature trails. Ms. Sabrina Faniel, this year’s St. Lucie Public Schools Distinguished Minority Educator of the Year, threw out the first at Friday night’s St. Lucie Mets game. Faniel proudly represented the School District as she took the field.

Piscopo Winds Up For First Pitch

St. Lucie County’s Assistant Principal of the Year and one of Florida’s finalists for this prestigious honor Samantha Piscopo warmed up to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the St. Lucie Mets baseball game.  She was accompanied by family and friends for an exciting evening of baseball on Thursday, April 25.

TCHS Band Earns Prestigious Award

Mr. Luke Hall and The Symphonic Band 1 of Treasure Coast High School earned the Otto J. Kraushaar Award, which is the highest award bands in the state of Florida can earn. This honor is given to bands that earn a perfect record of straight superior ratings from each adjudicator at Marching, District Concert, and State Concert Music Performance Assessments throughout and entire school year. This is the first time the Titan band program has earned this award.
