The district’s video submission of CTE: Building Futures with Phoenix Metals has been recognized as an Award of Distinction winner.  The video was shot and edited by Steve Devlin, Multimedia Graphic Artist, from the Media Services Department.  The video explores the partnership the District has with Phoenix Metals, a company in St. Lucie County. SLPS has parked buses at the following locations. The buses are serving as “Wi-Fi Hotspots” so that students can engage in Summer Academic Distance Learning Programs. District issued laptops will connect automatically when in range. Cell phones can connect to “SLPS-BYOD” network.

The 2020 Census will determine congressional representation, inform hundreds of billions in federal funding every year, and provide data that will impact communities for the next decade. The 2020 Census will provide a snapshot of our nation—who we are, where we live, and so much more. Palm Pointe Students Showcase Project Citizen at State Finals

Alexia Morgan and Hannah Raymond from Palm Pointe K8 School had the opportunity to share their project at the Project Citizen State Finals recently. Their project, “Water” We Waiting For? researched drowning deaths of younger children and found that Florida leads the nation in drowning deaths of children ages 1-4 years old. The class set out to research and propose public policy to save lives and reduce these statistics.  The civics class submitted a digital entry this year due to the remote instruction and competition requirements. SLW Centennial High School History Teacher Nominated for Fulbright Teaching Position

William Ortiz graduated in 2019 with a BA in History and International Affairs from Florida State University.  He has just been nominated as an alternate for a Fulbright Teaching Assistant position in Columbia. In the summer of 2019, William was accepted into the Charles B. Rangel Summer Enrichment program as a 2019 “Rangel Scholar.”  The Rangel Program is a joint program between the US Department of State and Howard University.  The goal of the program is to enrich undergraduate students and recent graduates with knowledge of the inner workings of the State Department and potential career paths. Southern Oaks Middle School Celebrates Community

On Saturday, May 30, 2020, the faculty and staff of Southern Oaks Middle School disseminated a total of 130 bags and boxes of groceries to families of the school and community. This was completed while passing out 8th grade promotion certificates, collecting laptops for the year and collection/pick-up of band instruments. About two weeks prior, faculty and staff were asked to consider bringing in non-perishable items to give to families to assist with financial setbacks. Allapattah Flats FFA Accomplishments

On Wednesday, May 20th, 3 FFA members from the Allapattah Flats FFA Chapter competed in the Virtual Vegetable Evaluation contest. These students had to identify vegetables, insects, and weeds from pictures they were given on the exam. The team placed 3rd in the state and Elizabeth Rufo placed high individual for the contest. CAST 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

CAST Members held a Drive-Thru 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony. Students were welcomed by staff members. Dr. Reid presented promotion certificates and Assistant Principal Mrs. Gavoni gave students a CAST cup filled with treats and CAST memorabilia. Dr. Reid shared, “We are truly lucky to have such an outstanding group of young ladies and gentlemen in the CAST class of 2020, we truly miss them here on campus, but we know they will come a visit when the time is right. It was great to see them in person if only for a few minutes.”

CAST Sends a Special Thank You to Essential Workers

The fine arts department at the Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie worked together to create the “Thank You Project” with their students soon after on-line learning began. All of our fine arts teachers had class discussions with their students identifying essential workers and what each of them has done for us during these challenging times. Our students wanted to thank our community using their talents in the arts. West Gate Distributes Student Items

West Gate K-8 teachers organized and distributed student items left at school before the closing. Following CDC and district guidelines, teachers practiced social distancing, wore protective masks, and shared some emotional good-byes as parents and students gathered their belongings.
