Southport Middle School Winter Band Concert Live on Facebook

Under the direction of Bandmaster Mr. Jim LeBon, students in the Southport Middle School band put on an outstanding performance at their annual Winter Band Concert. In case you missed it, the live performance was featured on Southport’s Facebook page, making it available for the families who could not attend. Those who could be there in person enjoyed the Band from social distanced seating in the outdoor arena. The band featured music for the holidays to celebrate this exciting time of the year.

St. Lucie Public Schools Graduation Rates Continue to Improve

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL – St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) earned a graduation rate of 93.2% while the six traditional high schools boasted a rate of 98% for the 2019-2020 school year. These rates exceed the state average of 90%. This is the 4th consecutive year that the graduation rate for SLPS is above 90%. SLPS improved its state ranking to 10th in the state out of 67 districts. St. Lucie Public Schools Spring 2021 Education Plan Receives DOE Approval

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL –St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) recently received approval for its Spring 2021 Education Plan from the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE).  The plan focuses on the continuation of the District’s 2020-2021 Reopening Plan that was approved by the FLDOE at the start of the school year.  Specifically, the  Spring Plan focuses on four areas; Interventions, Communication to Targeted MySchool Online Students, Enhanced Outreach, and Professional Development. MySchool Fourth Graders at Lakewood Park Earned a PBIS Event

Lakewood Park Elementary MySchool fourth-graders enjoyed a PBIS event using Microsoft OneNote and TEAMS. Ms. Beaumier keeps track of student and class behavior using  Falcon Bank. Once the students have earned a certain amount of Falcon Bucks they get to choose what activity they want to do by voting with Microsoft Poll.  Students choose to design and build a virtual Gingerbread house. #FalconPride #FalconKind #HeartOfThePark

SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC Assists Toys for Tots

  The SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC Black Talon Company annually partners with Toys for Tots and the United States Marine Corps to collect toys for underprivileged families and children.  This year they collected over 600 toys (4 Large Boxes) for the Toys for Tots organization and they have volunteered over 400 community service hours in support of Toys for Tots. The NJROTC Black Talon unit begins collecting toys annually, from October and ending in December, every year. The District Office celebrated the holidays!  Employees decorated their offices and hallways and dressed up during spirit week. The staff even enjoyed a holiday meal prepared by the Child Nutrition Services Department. Thank you School Board Members and Superintendent Gent for serving the holiday meal! Treasure Coast High Gingerbread House Competition

Treasure Coast High School Culinary Arts Program hosts the 1st Annual Gingerbread House Competition. Culinary 1 and Culinary 4 students participated entering their Gingerbread Houses in the competition and teachers judging the houses. Chef Marianne Daly commented, “It was a fun event and everyone got in the spirit of the holidays!” Level up!  

St. Lucie’s SEL Team Presents at National Conference

The SEL Department’s presentation at the Excelerator Virtual Conference sponsored by the national organization, Alliance for Strong Families and Communities was well received.  Traci Wilke, Director of SEL and the district’s SEL Specialists’ Cassey Chang and Christina Coppola shared St. Lucie Public Schools’ journey in Building Capacity for SEL Across a Large District.  Kelly Martin, the Alliance’s Director of Impact for Educational Success shared, “Your presentation was one of the most engaging and enthusiastic sessions of the entire conference, and we are so grateful for the time and expertise you shared with the Alliance network.”

Elks Lodge Holiday Giving

On Monday, December 14th, the Elks Lodge #1520 donated 11 pallets of toys, backpacks, clothing, personal hygiene products and food to 11 schools.  The first stop of the day was at Lakewood Park Elementary School. The School District wants to thank Lenny Smallacombe and all of the other Elks volunteers for their generosity and dedication to the boys and girls of St. Lucie Public Schools.  These gifts will certainly make the holidays a little brighter for these students.   Thank you Ft. Boys & Girls Club Opens New Site

St. Lucie County Boys & Girls can soon come to the largest Club in Florida! In partnership with Westside Church in Fort Pierce, the newest BGCSLC site will access three buildings totaling nearly 55,000 square feet and 25 acres of outdoor recreational area. Criminal Justice Students Participate in Federal Court’s Teen Discourse Session

Treasure Coast High School’s Criminal Justice students from Mr. Diego Rios’ class participated in a Teen Discourse Session with Federal Judges and Attorneys.  This is a yearly event that transitioned to a virtual session this school year.  A special thank you to the following individuals making this event possible: Federal Magistrates Maynard and Brennan, U.S. Attorney Brandy Galler, and Attorney Andrew Lowenstein.

Criminal Justice Student’s Career Exploration with St. Lucie Sheriff’s Office

Criminal Justice Academy students from Treasure Coast High School (Mr. Rios’ class) and Fort Pierce Central (Mr. Wilder’s class) participated in a career exploration session with representatives from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.  Fort Pierce Central students were able to participate virtually from their campus.  Guest speakers included Crime Scene Investigation (Bridget Blatchford), K9 (Deputy Hill), and Sherriff’s Explorer Units (Deputy Raynolds, Deputy Gomez).

Skilled Trades, Alive and Well at Port St Lucie High

Step into Bruce Gardner’s Construction Trades classroom at Port St Lucie High School and you will see and hear the action.  Students learn, practice skills, and earn industry certification in Building Construction Trades.  Carpentry, Jobsite Safety, Tools and Equipment, Measurement, Residential Electrical, Aluminum Screening, Painting, Drywall Installation and Repair, Residential Plumbing, Residential HVAC, etc. The program is a Pre-apprenticeship that leads into preferred admission into an Apprenticeship after high school graduation.  

Skilled Trades, Alive and Well at Treasure Coast High

Robotics, 3D Printing, Saws, Rulers, Measurement Calipers, CNC Machines, Drill Press, AutoCad Design, and Inventor Production, are all a buzz in Phil Depuy’s Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Lab at Treasure Coast High.  It’s a place for those who like to work with their hands, ‘tinker’, build and design. Students learn, practice skills and earn industry certification in MSSC, Inventor, and AutoCad. The program is a Preapprenticeship that leads into preferred admission into an Apprenticeship after high school graduation.

CTE Entrepreneurship Virtual Field Trip

Treasure Coast High International Business students host St Lucie West K8 8th graders for virtual field trip. Entrepreneurship is the focus topic since both classes are studying and working on Entrepreneurship Projects. Kudos to Ms. Maggie Choppa at Treasure Coast High and Ms. Jennifer Tremblay at St Lucie West K8 for spearheading this collaboration! Level Up! Woohoo CTE!
