Morningside Elementary Students Exercise Their Brains!

Fifth Grade students in Coach McKenna and Coach Sides’ MTSS group participated in a fun and engaging coordinate graphing activity on Friday in the PE area. Students had to pick a cone and name the coordinates. Once they lifted the cones, students either found prizes or a chance to roll the exercise cube.

Allapattah Flats K8 Hold a Science Vocabulary Parade

Science vocabulary words came to life at Allapattah Flats K-8 on January 27th! Elementary students and staff had fun and remained safe as they marched in outdoor parades. Everyone enjoyed showing off the words they learned by dressing up or sharing their display boards. We had a great time coming together to celebrate science and literacy!

MSAP Magnet Schools Application Window is Now Open

Mariposa Elementary First Grade Reading Centers

The students favorite is the listening center where they get to listen to a great book and then draw and write to tell about their favorite part of the story or their favorite characters.  

Pop-Up Museum at Village Green Environmental Studies School

Media Specialist, Janet Sievers is excited to host the Mel Fisher Maritime Pop-Up Museum in the Media Center at VGESS. The topic of this year’s museum is While the World Waited-Florida and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Students in 3rd-5th grade will read and discuss the eight panels of the museum while learning new vocabulary. Accompanying PowerPoints are also provided to provide students with real news footage from the events.

Fairlawn Students Honor Highwaymen

5th grade students at Fairlawn Elementary honored the Highwaymen by painting iconic scenes from the Indian River. Their pictures will be displayed at the 6th Annual Highwaymen Show next month in Fort Pierce.

Village Green Remembers Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr

During the week of January 11-15th students at the Village Green Environmental Studies School participated in Kindness Week to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Various weeklong activities included an in-school field trip of the MLK Monument in Washington D.C., historic videos about the life of MLK, songs, and read-alouds about Dr. King as well as writing and drawing activities that highlighted Dr. King and his historic I Have a Dream speech.  Student work from the week was selected and placed in the main hallway of VGESS.

Oak Hammock 8th Grade Students Creation of Dueling Historical Heads

Students in Mr. McNab’s 8th Grade Early American History class were challenged to create visual representations of Alexander Hamilton’s and Thomas Jefferson’s opposing viewpoints and ideas for the new country.   Students used the course textbook as well as internet resources to illustrate and describe: The Constitution, National Bank, Structure of Government, Human Nature and Economic or French Revolution. Students were encouraged to use similes or metaphors in their drawings as they created a visual of the viewpoints that connected to the theme and title.      

5th Grade WBE Mariners Conquer Challenge!

Ms. Burton’s and Ms. Barberi’s 5th grade social studies students were given a challenge to conquer over winter break! If upon their return, they could write down all 50 states and capitals without assistance, they would receive 50 Mariner Dollars. Furthermore, they could use 25 of those Mariner Dollars for a kid’s lunch at Wendy’s.  Jordan Muldrow and Ever Cabrera were able to complete the mission! Congratulations,  gentlemen, on a job well done!

Lakewood Park Elementary Showcases Their Resource Classes

Lakewood Park Elementary students are lucky to be able to participate in different resource classes. Students at Lakewood Park Elementary participate every week in drama class. In Ms. Gardner’s drama class, students do a variety of activities appropriate to their age level, including gameplay, acting out scenes, and improvising skits. CAST Students Launch Learning in STEAM Activity

Sixth graders at CAST created catapults using a variety of objects for a Stop and STEAM event on campus. They practiced the Nature of Science standards as they understood how to make adjustments to their catapult designs to reach the desired effect. “I was really impressed that many of my virtual students were able to build great catapults with items found in their home!”- Mrs. Albers

“Get My Job” Series is a Hit @MosaicDigitalAcademy!

Mrs. Dana Tillberg, School Counselor at Mosaic Digital Academy, has been hosting a “Get My Job” series via zoom since the beginning of November.  The series is designed to provide students with opportunities to interact with professionals to provide more in-depth knowledge about career paths and real-life experiences and ultimately to learn what it takes to “get their job.”  The target audience is students in Grades 7-12. Village Green Teacher Receives Grant

Congratulations to 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Susan Chenoweth who is the recipient of the Retired Educators of St. Lucie County (CTA/CU) Innovative Grant! With the money awarded, Mrs. Chenoweth will purchase anti-blue light screens for every student laptop in her classroom.  Mrs. Chenoweth is pictured centered along with her very proud administrators, Ms. Avellino and Principal Lehman.

Treasure Coast High Manufacturing/Engineering Program hosts Virtual Field Trip

Phil Depuy, Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Instructor at Treasure Coast High hosted a virtual Field Trip informing students about the Pre-apprenticeship and local Apprenticeship opportunities.  Dawn Riccardi and Marcelo Dossantos from CareerSource-Research Coast presented to the high school Manufacturing/Engineering students.  Local manufacturer Jim Brann of The Porch Factory and apprentice Bobby also presented to the students! St Lucie West Centennial Culinary Arts Students Cook Chicken Noodle Soup

Chef Chris Gedke, Culinary Arts Instructor at St Lucie West Centennial High and her Culinary Arts students are cooking chicken noodle soup!  It’s warm, nourishing, and delicious.  Chef Gedke and her students are selling cups of soup this week as a fundraiser for their program activities. Level up CTE!    

Palm Pointe Artists Honor Holocaust Victims

During the recent Holocaust Education Week, middle school artists read and studied the book entitled, The Very Last Butterfly.  The book is a collection of artwork and poetry written by the children who were imprisoned in the Terezin concentration camp.  Our artists created butterflies in remembrance of the 1.5 million children’s lives who were lost during the Holocaust.
