CAST Hosts Family Basics Kickoff Night

CAST held their first Leader in Me Family Basics Kickoff Virtual night on Facebook Live! Students then enjoyed an interactive Nearpod with video presentations created by the Leadership League. Students learned how the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People will benefit their life and their families’ lives.

100 Days Smarter at Lawnwood Elementary

The VPK Students of Lawnwood Elementary celebrated 100 Days of School. This day marks an important milestone for teachers and students. Our Lawnwood Leopards are celebrating because they are 100 days smarter due to their hard work and effort. WAY TO GO!

CAST Art Appreciation in Pre-Algebra

CAST eighth graders in Mrs. Dayton’s pre-algebra class integrated art appreciation into their practice of solving pairs of simultaneous linear equations. Students first observed works of art from Louis Comfort Tiffany and the Art Nouveau Movement of the 19th century. Then students plotted points using the given system of lines. Afterwards, they used the lines to create their own pieces of stained-glass artwork.

Palm Pointe Literacy Week was a Blast!

Palm Pointe students had an incredible week celebrating all things Literacy. Students wrote letters to authors and even got a response back from author, Betty Birney. Classes participated in various activities that ranged from Literacy Door Decorating, class read a-louds, book reviews, genre posters, community circles on character, and even creating class books on kindness. While at lunch, students viewed a presentation that highlighted their teacher’s pictures showing off their favorite book. Administrators and the Media Specialist also posted a read a-loud story time for the students to view with their families each evening.  

CAST Virtual First Graders Interpret “The Dot”

Mrs. Gamez’s virtual first graders at CAST listened to “The Dot” then created their own artistic interpretation of a dot. Students then shared a personal story connected to their version of the dot. Some examples included a sun, heart, house, and Godzilla! This lesson strengthened the mindset we cultivate at CAST that anyone can be an artist!

Port St Lucie High Virtually Visits Apex Engineering in Jacksonville

Port St Lucie High School’s Technical Design and Building Construction Trades Programs virtually attended a field trip to Apex Engineering in Jacksonville, Florida.  Business Partner, Dan Morris at Apex Engineering virtually hosted John Picchiarini and Bruce Gardner’s classes.  Dan used interactive technology to demonstrate creating trusses, floor joists and discussed details of  the apprenticeship and preapprenticeship opportunities available to students in St Lucie County!  Level up CTE!  

Northport Student Displays Heroism!

Students at Northport continually learn the meaning of the word ” heroism” through guest speakers, stories, and video clips.  Integrity and heroism are part of the bedrock of what Northport has been built on through the years.  Today, one of our own students was honored for displaying courage above and beyond without thought for his own safety.  Sixth-grade student, Jacob Napoles was honored by both Saint Lucie County Sheriff and Martin County Sheriffs offices for saving his mother’s life. TCHS Medical Students Attend Virtual Presentation with Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency

Students within Mrs. Becky Loupe’s medical classes (Treasure Coast High School) participated in a guest speaker presentation with Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency, University of Miami.  This virtual event was hosted by Cynthia Hacker, the Life Alliance representative and a member of St. Lucie Public School’s Medical Program Advisory Board.                        

Students Explore the Scientific Method at Oak Hammock K-8

Elementary students in Ms. Valente’s Resource class explored the scientific method by researching the effects of gravity and air resistance on parachutes. The students were challenged with designing and creating an effective parachute model (small or large) to land on the target and stay intact. Students in Ms. Kane’s 4th grade class, were scientists for the day, as they made predictions, conducted trials to collect data, observed and reached a conclusion to determine which parachute system was effective.  

Criminal Justice Student Interns with the City of Fort Pierce

St. Lucie West Centennial High’s Criminal Justice student, Taylor Cuevas, is an Intern with the City of Fort Pierce- Code Enforcement Unit.  This internship allows her to learn and apply her training as an Accredited Legal Professional.  She states that she is gaining new knowledge and appreciates the opportunity.  Taylor plans to attend the University of Central Florida to pursue Criminal Law after high school.  Thank you to Mr. James “Jim” Nichols for offering this opportunity to his students through the Criminal Justice 4 course.

Southport Middle School Beach Clean Up

Southport Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society teamed up with Student Council members and their families for an environmental service project to help clean up St. Lucie County beaches. The “Beach Clean Up” is one of Southport’s favorite service project initiatives that students are participating in this school year. The cleanup took place at Jensen Beach.

Northport Students Shared the Love for Valentine’s Day

Northport children in Ms. Apostolico’s 3rd grade class and Ms. Fox’s Kindergarten class shared Valentine’s with each other over TEAMS! Students need to feel connected and loved. What better way than to meet with your buddy and share kind words with them! Happy Valentine’s Day!

Aerospace Grad Lands Job Working With Drones

Jacob Kendrick, 2020 St Lucie Public Schools and Fort Pierce Central High Aerospace Institute graduate, landed a job with a drone contractor for FPL.  In March 2020, while a senior at Central, Jacob received his Drone Pilot’s License.  Now, he travels around Florida inspecting FPL power lines with drones.  He is pictured working in Bunnell, FL inspecting a 37-mile-long stretch.  Jacob is also pursuing his bachelor’s Degree with IRSC.  Go Cobras!  Level up CTE!  

Forest Grove MOA Prep Students Continue Field Studies

On January 30, 2021, current 8th grade MOA Prep students joined together with 9th grade MOA (all former Forest Grove MOA students) in collecting data for ORCA (Ocean Research and Conservation Association, Inc.). The students continue to participate in this field study by collecting physical, chemical and biological data. This data will be used for a long term, quarterly study on the health of the Indian river Lagoon. Oak Hammock K-8 Sponsors A Chef Boyardee Food Drive to Support Local Food Pantry

Creating social awareness and helping underprivileged individuals and families in need are the things Oak Hammock K-8 students are learning as they sponsor their annual food drive for Grace Packs. Students from Mr. Sparacio’s 7th Grade Civics class are understanding the importance of giving back to the community by preparing the collections boxes to be placed throughout the school and classrooms for the Chef Boyardee themed food drive.
