French Pastries A la Mode at FPC

French teachers Madame Elie and Mr. Johnson paired with culinary teacher Chef Strell to allow Fort Pierce Central French students the opportunity to create their own profiteroles (French cream puffs). Students learned to make a pâte a choux (pastry puffs), crême Chantilly ( Chantilly cream), and a hot chocolate sauce.

The students worked in teams of three to create the batter and cream, and received pastries to fill, and customize on their own. Chef Strell brought excitement to the kitchen, while Madame Elie and Mr. Johnson brought the culture of France and culinary history. Students loved the pastries and even asked for seconds! Students also loved the fact that the pastries were not the traditional American taste. The sweetness of the pastries, cream, and chocolate sauce were perfectly balanced.
